Launch of Science Gossip

Science Gossip has been created as both as a new news resource for science and as an experiment to see how well blogs compare to traditional media such as newspapers or television concerning science journalism. Unlike other science sites that already exist, it does not try to gather all science blog articles and it explicitly shuns linking to traditional media sources. The whole point of this site is to link to blog articles covering recent science news without overwhelming the layperson.

One thing that is still uncertain and is almost certainly subject to change is the categories of science used on this site. Each category should be specific enough that articles in the same category feel related, and yet they should not be so specific that the number of categories overwhelms the average person. While the initial categories are loosely based on the Fields of science article in Wikipedia, there are undoubtedly ways to improve the categorization.

If Science Gossip ends up growing beyond what I can maintain by myself, there will be calls for editors and an effort to move the website to a dedicated host. But this is probably all in the distant future. For now, blog article submissions would be welcome, which would supplement the articles I add myself.
